Japan Fashion Week kicked things off this week for the Spring 2009 collections with some of the country’s most talented designers.
Mintdesigns were the first to show, and they set the pace well. The models wore wellies, Mintdesigns signature umbrellas and skeletal headpieces - dinosaur skeletons to be exact. An unlikely mix of themes but the result is great; we see a lightweight, colorful and fun collection but with no lack of intricacy. The garments have eye-catching and brilliant patterns and quirky details.

Later on in the day, the always interesting Mercibeaucoup delivered a stand-out collection. Tons of soft plaid garments paired together with striped and cartoon character themed pieces and topped off with oversized, chunky necklaces. The details are really fun, ranging from everything between pompoms and patterned or embroidered tights. Maybe not the most practical collection, but Mercibeaucoup are always a joy to see.
