Though Summer Rej and I were only a year apart when we attended Cornell University, we didn’t cross paths till we were out-and-about back in our native NYC. Rej, who works at Vogue by day, has just launched her first jewelry line, Three Blondes, alongside her longtime friends Jennifer Meyers and Kristy Rao. Rej spoke to tFS about what inspired her line, Chanel’s Tickled Pink, growing up in the city that never sleeps, and more…

Q: Can you tell us about who is involved in 3B and how the jewelry line got started?

A: Three Blondes is comprised of myself, Jennifer Meyers and Kristy Rao. Jennifer and I have been best friends since we attended high school together at the Calhoun School in New York City.  Kristy and I grew up two blocks away from each other on the Upper East Side and have practically known each other our entire lives.  Jennifer and I started a clothing line together in high school. It was featured in NYCircuit Magazine and featured sassy statement tees with sayings like, “I summer in the Hamptons,” “Debutante Striptease,” and “Ladies who Lunch.” We had to put things on hold though when we left for college, but we always knew that we would once again join forces because as creative as we can be apart, when we put our minds together, we even surprise ourselves!  Kristy and I hadn’t seen each other for years, but after running into each other through a mutual friend, we rekindled our friendship.  Jennifer and I knew right away that Kristy was the missing link in what would become Three Blondes.

Q: What is the inspiration behind the new collection?

A: Our collection celebrates the art of dressing up. We want Three Blondes jewelry to instantly transform the wearer into a “Three Blondes Girl.  This is a girl who’s carefree and fashion forward.  She’s timeless, yet cool enough to be different. All her friends want to dress like her and raid her closet—better yet, all her friends want to be her.  Her style is eclectic: she can be a 1920s movie star, she can be a downtown art gallery-hopper who adopts a style before it becomes cool, and yet, she’s somehow always ready for a lunch date on Madison Avenue or at afternoon of shopping on Fifth.  She looks like any second she can be a Helmut Newton photograph come to life.  Decadent and extravagant -  yet somehow the Three Blondes Girl is still approachable and accessible.
